If you are already thinking about the grilling season, remember, it’s not too early to make your outdoor BBQ plans. Whether you use propane, natural gas, charcoal, or wood, proper planning can make your grilling season go a lot smoother. The gas vs. charcoal vs. wood debate has been going on a long time and the intent here is not to fuel that debate but to discuss the possibilities of each. After all, you are all striving for the same thing…great tasting food, and the better you make your outdoor BBQ plans, the better chance you have of achieving your goal!

Cooking with wood is maybe the oldest style of grilling and it offers some great benefits. Some methods include
indirect heat, which is a great method for smoking food. This method will add a great smoky flavor and has the benefit of not having to stand at the cooker the whole time to keep and eye on the food. Direct heat will require you to spend more time at the grill monitoring the process but the cooking time will be greatly reduced and you will still get that great smoky flavor. Cooking with charcoal is a very popular style. Some like the taste of charcoal the best but that is simply a matter of personal taste. Again, we are not trying to fuel a debate here. As with wood, you can use indirect or direct heat with charcoal.

Cooking with gas has become very popular due to the ease of use. Just turn on the gas and push the igniter…instant fire, very easy! In today’s busy world, this is definitely an attractive benefit. No matter which style of grilling you decide on, when you start making your outdoor BBQ plans, you will need to make a list of supplies that will be needed. This list will range from the very basic to the very elaborate and again this is a personal preference that you will have to make a decision on.

Basic supplies include a grill (of course), spatula, tongs, fork, & spoon. It is also a good idea to have a grill cleaning brush of some sort. Also, there are basic grilling tool kits that are very affordable and this may make your outdoor BBQ plans a bit easier. Other supplies might include barbeque gloves, apron, meat thermometer, and grill cover. A charcoal chimney starter is a nice tool for you charcoal enthusiasts. The list could go on and on. The bottom line is if you want to be ready for this grilling season, you should make your outdoor BBQ plans now.

Happy grilling!
